Commitment to Student Achievement

DDSB Student Achievement Plan

The Student Achievement Plan (SAP) is a Ministry of Education requirement under the Better Schools and Student Outcomes Act (2023). Each year, all Ontario school boards must develop and publicly share a plan outlining how they will improve outcomes for students in three priority areas: academic achievement, preparation for future success, and engagement and well-being.

Aligned with the Durham District School Board (DDSB) Multi-Year Strategic Plan, the 2025–2026 Student Achievement Plan outlines how schools will strengthen student learning, belonging, and connection across the system. The plan identifies focused goals in foundational literacy and numeracy, well-being, and transitions, connecting these to evidence-based instructional practices that advance equity, achievement, and continuous improvement.

This year’s plan emphasizes greater precision and consistency in monitoring student success, including attendance, engagement, achievement, and credit accumulation. These data inform decisions and guide timely supports for learners who need them most. The plan also deepens the use of personalized and responsive instructional practices for teaching, learning, and assessment, ensuring that instruction is tailored to meet diverse learner needs through Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

To prepare students for future success, the Student Achievement Plan strengthens pathway planning and transition supports from Grades 7 to 12, maximizing monitoring structures to support responsive, experiential learning and secondary readiness. The plan also enhances communication tools and practices to build stronger reciprocal engagement and feedback with students, families, and community partners.

Engagement to inform the 2025–2026 Student Achievement Plan began in the spring, helping to identify areas of focus and refine next steps. In the fall, opportunities for input expanded through the DDSB website and system-wide sharing, allowing families, students, and community members to review the plan and provide feedback. This ongoing consultation ensures that the plan reflects the diverse voices and experiences of the DDSB community and remains responsive to the needs of students and schools.

Publicly available on the DDSB website, the Student Achievement Plan reflects our collective commitment to ensuring that every student is known, valued, and supported to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
