Engaging Beyond June: Summer Learning Opportunities
Summer isn’t just a break—it’s a bridge. At the DDSB, we believe learning doesn’t have to stop when the school year ends.
This summer, we opened doors to new beginnings. Programs like Great Beginnings and the Great Beginnings Afrocentric Program for Black Student Success helped our youngest learners step confidently into Kindergarten. These culturally grounded experiences weren’t just about readiness—they were about belonging, joy, and setting the stage for success in September.
Our summer camps brought learning to life—especially through outdoor education at Durham Forest, where curiosity met nature and exploration sparked growth.
For secondary students, summer school was a pathway forward. More than 12,500 learners engaged in courses across the district—some in person through July, others online in August—proving that flexibility and access matter.
And for students stepping into Grade 9, the Getting Ready for High School program made the transition smoother, turning uncertainty into confidence before the first bell rang.
Because at DDSB, summer isn’t downtime, it’s an opportunity to keep every learner moving forward, supported, and inspired.
