The Milestones for Success: Honouring Every Student’s Journey framework was co-developed during the 2024–2025 school year through collaboration across departments and with educators. Implemented in 2025–2026, it strengthens alignment with the DDSB vision of Every Student Across Their Stage and advances MYSP actions to ensure all students reach key DDSB Milestones on their unique pathway to success.
Grounded in the Developmental Assets Framework, the Milestones identify indicators of thriving across four domains: Essential Life Skills, Literacy, Numeracy, and Home Connections. They provide shared language for students, educators, and families to describe growth, celebrate strengths, and plan next steps. Educators use the framework to analyze learning evidence, inform instruction, and engage families as active partners in supporting achievement and well-being.
Family engagement is central to the framework’s purpose. Schools are building meaningful connections with parents and caregivers that help families understand developmental progress and ways to reinforce learning at home. The Milestones document, includes a QR code for families to share feedback and examples of how they are using the tool to support learning.
By connecting family, school, and community partnerships, Milestones for Success helps ensure that learning is a shared and relational process. It brings coherence across classroom practice, school improvement, and system priorities, supporting every student to feel known, valued, and empowered to thrive at their stage of learning and development.
By integrating Universal Design for Learning, anti-oppression, and differentiation, Milestones for Success connects classroom practice, family engagement, and system improvement, ensuring that every student is known, valued, and supported to thrive.
