Building for What’s Next: How DDSB is Growing with our Communities

Growth isn’t just about numbers—it’s about creating places where every student can thrive. At the DDSB, we’re building for what’s next—because strong, sustainable schools are the foundation of strong communities.

As enrolment rises across the district, this year, we reached some incredible milestones.

We opened the doors to two brand-new schools, Trillium Woods and Josiah Henson Public Schools, in rapidly-growing neighbourhoods of north Pickering and Ajax. These schools aren’t just buildings; they’re hubs for connection and collaboration. Every classroom, every hallway was designed with care to support academic achievement and student well-being for years to come.

In addition, our teams have taken on 59 major projects in 2025 alone, including renovation and ventilation projects.

Behind these projects is a collective effort: planners, architects, facilities teams, community voices, and our Board of Trustees—all working together to make sure our schools reflect the needs and dreams of the communities they serve.

And we’re not stopping here. With four more schools scheduled to open next year, we’re continuing to advocate for the funding and approvals needed to keep pace with growth. That means investing in upgrades and enhancements to existing schools so every student benefits.

At the DDSB, strong schools are the foundation for strong communities. And every new build or renovation is part of our broader commitment to equity, inclusion, and opportunity for all students.
